First Presentation of Colchester Secondary Plan

AUGUST 28, 2024

The Town of Essex Planning Department held their first of three presentations about the proposed 2024 version of the Official Plan to the public in Colchester on August 28. Greater than 150 residents attended the event to express their opinions, concerns and possible opposition to what they were shown on various photos, slides and documents.

Colchester Matters, a local group wishing to broadcast issues with this new plan were on hand with signs and flyers to ensure that those in attendance knew of the problems with the focus of the proposed Official Plan document.

Exit interviews by the Colchester Matters team with most attendees indicated strong opposition to the direction the Planning document was taking. In particular, the overfocus on Tourism related amenities and updates as well as the extreme levels of residential intensification appeared to be the most common complaints.

Two further meetings are scheduled for September 4 in Essex and September 11 at the Harrow Arena.

Digital copies of this document from the Harrow News are not available but the September 3, 2024 edition of the Harrow News contains first hand reporting by Adam Gault from the Harrow News who was on hand to record the proceedings.
